Jim Crowley got his new role as first jockey to Hamdan Al Maktoum off to the best possible start when steering Naseem to an emphatic win in the opening mile maiden.

The champion jockey was making only a cameo pre-Christmas appearance in Britain as he flies out to Dubai on January 2, taking in the Qatar Derby next week.

Naseem, one of three John Gosden-trained representatives in the £19,000 contest, was drawn widest of all in stall 16 but still had enough in hand to score by five lengths.
