'My head was down on the line so I had every chance' - Danny Tudhope completes 54-1 treble

Danny Tudhope completed a 54-1 treble when the David O'Meara-trained Ryka denied market leader Glistening Nights by a short head in the 1m2f handicap. 

Ryka was running for the first time since finishing down the field in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot and was having her first run over the distance.

Tudhope, who narrowly missed out on a four-timer when beaten a neck on Spring Festival in the mile classified stakes, told Racing TV: “She travelled okay. I don’t think she was enjoying the ground that much, but she’s got a nice attitude and gives her all. My head was down on the line so I had every chance.”

The jockey kickstarted his treble aboard the O'Meara-trained Spiritoftheblues, who landed the 7f fillies’ maiden by three and a half lengths, before partnering Jim Goldie's Janna’s Journey to victory in division two of the 7f handicap.

Janna's Journey was scoring for the fourth time in a row at trips ranging from six furlongs to a mile.

Tudhope added of Janna's Journey: “She’s an amazing filly and seems to be improving. It wasn’t the most competitive race, but you can’t take anything away from Jim – he’s worked wonders with her.”

One-two for Jardine

Sibyl Charm led home an Iain Jardine one-two to gain her first turf success at the 16th attempt in the 6f handicap, having recorded her previous three wins on Newcastle’s all-weather track. 

The daughter of Charm Spirit got the better of better-fancied stablemate Giselles Izzy by half a length to score for the first time since March last year.
