The sight of 20 juveniles working hard to keep up on the Knavesmire while Mums Tipple careered away in front will live long in the memory and an 11-length win suggests this was a Group horse masquerading in sales-race company.

Just how good Mums Tipple is, time will tell. But the clock does back up the visuals, with a winning time of 1 minute 9.32 seconds more than a second quicker than the one clocked by Living In The Past in the preceding Group 2 Lowther Stakes over the same 6f trip.

There was no shortage of ante-post quotes floating around, and 12-1 for the Commonwealth Cup looks about right. The same price for the 2,000 Guineas, however, should be avoided like the plague.
