Mullins even surprises himself sometimes as unfancied Total Recall tames rivals

Seeing is believing, but when it comes to Willie Mullins you do not even have to see everything to believe.

The fog once again impeded our viewing experience of Gowran Park's big day and when the Thyestes troops emerged from the trenches turning for home, the front line consisted of a pair of Mullins-trained stayers. The only surprising thing were the two names, Total Recall and Class Conti.

Total Recall was running off a rating just 2lb above his Ladbrokes Trophy-winning mark in 2017, but form figures of P863 suggested his best days were behind him and Mullins thought so too. He fancied Chef Des Obeaux.
