Monsieur Lecoq survives inquiry to land Welsh Champion Hurdle

Conditional jockey Chester Williams partnered the biggest success of his fledgling career on Monsieur Lecoq in the Welsh Champion Hurdle at Ffos Las, but had to endure a nerve-racking few minutes as the stewards announced an inquiry into the result.
Williams and Barry Geraghty, riding last year’s runner-up Le Prezien, appeared to come close together as they duelled for the line and there was only a short head between the pair at the line.
However, a relieved Williams did not have too long to wait until the result was cleared and said: "It’s a big Saturday handicap with a valuable pot, so it’s my biggest win and I could not be more pleased as days like this for a young jockey really count.
