Owner-breeder David Ward bred his first ever winner when Sunday Star landed division one of the 7f maiden fillies' stakes.

The Ed Walker-trained filly was going one better than her previous close second at Goodwood when overcoming well-backed newcomer Maqsad by a length and three-quarters.

The only sad aspect to the victory was the fact the winner’s dam Northern Star died this year after giving birth to a foal by Kingman.
