Both of Mighty Leader’s previous attempts at chasing had ended up on the deck at the first fence, but he finally got his jumping act together when landing the the 3m2f beginners’ chase under Paddy Brennan.

But he probably had a slice of good fortune on his side as the runner-up, odds-on favourite Overland Flyer, managed to throw away any chance he may have had by showing a marked tendency to hang right for much of the race.

However, that did not matter to trainer Fergal O’Brien and owners Oscar Singh and his daughter Priya Purewal, as they were netting another decent prize together following Winter Lion’s success in their colours at Cheltenham last month.
