Meadow forges ahead to book festival ticket for Harrington
Forge Meadow will be entered for the Grade 2 Mares’ Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham following her eight-length win in the Grade 2 Paddy Power Novice Hurdle, in which the Jessica Harrington-trained five-year-old completed a double for jockey Robbie Power.
Left in front when Pravalaguna, who was being pressed for the lead, fell two out, Forge Meadow went clear to beat Joey Sasa and Any Second Now, much to the delight of Harrington, who celebrated her 70th birthday on Saturday.
Harrington said: “That’s great as she had been unlucky on her two previous starts. She was almost knocked down by a faller in the Royal Bond at Fairyhouse and things didn’t work out for her back at Fairyhouse last time. After that performance we’ll head to Cheltenham. She needs to learn to relax a bit more. Better ground and a good gallop will suit.”
