McCoy likes Minella Rocco for the National and picks his cupcake accordingly

During his weighing-room days Sir Anthony McCoy almost certainly had very little experience of cupcakes. These days he can embrace them with open arms – and in doing so on Friday he also revealed his Grand National selection.

From a box of Racing Post-branded cakes, each one of which bore the name of a Grand National runner, McCoy selected one of the two runners representing his boss JP McManus. However, instead of going for market principal Anibale Fly he went for the Jonjo O'Neill-trained Minella Rocco.

Much more predictable was the choice of ITV presenter Ed Chamberlin. The devoted Tiger Roll fan made sure he got to the box of tasty offerings first and duly picked up last season's winner, who on this occasion was not under Davy Russell but a delicious vanilla buttercream.
