'Maybe he can go to Cheltenham in October' - bigger trips await Full Confession as Mullins' sole runner lands odds at Downpatrick

Willie Mullins sent one runner to Downpatrick and left with a winner after 4-9 favourite Full Confession won the 2m2f maiden hurdle under the champion trainer's son Patrick.

Bought for €60,000 as a four-year-old, Full Confession was far from flashy but he managed to get over the line in front by two lengths, making it two from four under rules and getting his first victory over hurdles.

The winning rider told Racing TV: “He won despite not having his perfect circumstances. I think he wants to go further and he's a little bit lazy. I wouldn’t go on ground with him that quick again.

"Galway might come a bit too soon for him, but maybe he can go to Cheltenham in October or to Listowel.”

Third success for Staples

Gavin Cromwell also entered the winner's enclosure when 7-2 joint-favourite Tell Us This won the 2m2f handicap hurdle under Eoin Staples.

It was a third win for the rider under rules and a simple enough victory, his mount pulling eight lengths clear of the chasing pack.

Elliott and Kennedy among winners

Jazz De Cotte and Jack Kennedy continued the domination of the big stables when they won the 2m6f maiden hurdle for trainer Gordon Elliott at odds of 6-5.

The six-year-old made heavy weather of it but eventually got past long-time leader Jackson Lamb and came home in front by a length.

Kennedy said: “He has been a bit disappointing since his bumper win. He would want to be winning that race, but it was nice to get it. The further he goes, the better.”

And jockey and trainer were not finished there, as the duo combined to land the final race on the card, the 2m7½f handicap chase, with 6-1 chance Thehairyfella.
