Masar's blowout continues disappointing trend of recent Derby winners

Several of the most recent winners of the Derby have failed to win again after Epsom. Following Masar's defeat at Newmarket on Thursday, Harzand in 2016 remains the last Derby winner to register another victory.

Despite a troubled passage at Epsom, the Aidan O'Brien-trained son of Galileo battled for a half-length success over Madhmoon. Thoughts soon turned to the Curragh for the Irish equivalent but despite being sent off the 5-4 favourite, he failed to reel in front-running stablemate Sovereign and finished six lengths adrift.
