Lynwood Gold earns Derby quote after impressive debut
Joe Fanning was unsure what Lynwood Gold had achieved in making a winning debut in the 1m½f maiden but his five-length victory over rivals with previous experience was enough to stir bookmakers, with Paddy Power offering an opening show of 40-1 for the 2018 Investec Derby.
Time will tell if there is much substance to the form or Power's initial gambit, but at this stage the dream is alive for the handsome son of Mastercraftsman.
"I was keen to get a position as I knew he was going to stay well," said Fanning, who rousted his Mark Johnston-trained partner from the stalls.
