Loyalty proved to be a Shaw thing in feature

Derek Shaw was one of the trainers who wanted the meeting called off before racing got under way, but he was not complaining after Loyalty won the Class 4 mile handicap for the second year running.

Before the first, Shaw said: "I pulled my runner out at Huntingdon before that was called off due to high winds, and I couldn't believe they're racing here. They should have called it off at 8am looking at the forecast but they've just about got away with it."

On the conditions, winning jockey Martin Lane said: "It's a bit fierce and I wouldn't have wanted to be running around here in a big field. One of the worst areas is the pull-up after the line, it's very gusty. Thankfully I was sheltered up the inside turning for home and that helped a lot."
