Limato became the first horse since Moorestyle in 1980-81 to win the Group 2 Godolphin Stud and Stable Staff Awards Challenge Stakes in successive years when justifying 7-4 favouritism in stylish fashion.

The 7f contest used to be the first race on the old Champions Day card at the track before 2011 and Henry Candy's stalwart put up a commanding performance to set up a possible crack at winning it for a record third time in 2019.

Despite a fierce cross wind, jockey Harry Bentley was happy to sit exposed on the outside while Dancing Star made the running and then struck for home in the Dip, holding the late surge of Zonderland by a length and a quarter.
