At a time of year when the lack of depth in novice chases is so often derided, the 2m4f beginners' chase at Uttoxeter brought together a generous handful of potentially useful sorts.

Chief among them, at least if hurdles form is any guide, was Lil Rockerfeller, star of Neil King's stable and second in last year's Stayers' Hurdle.

He had won on the Flat at Goodwood when last seen and it was his speed as well as his jumping that was tested as he eventually got the better of the front-running Wenyerreadyfreddie by one and a half lengths.
