Life begins at 270 for the Curragh as we live in a marquee world for now

After guzzling one too many glasses of wine, my mother often tells me that "life begins at 60 and to order her another." Where the Curragh is concerned, life begins at 270.

The first recorded race at the Curragh took place in 1727 and most of the facilities looked as though they had been there ever since. Not any more. Change, glorious change, is occurring.

The impressive Longines clock located in the middle of the parade ring has stopped. It was five to three at 2.55pm and it was still five to three at 4.55pm. The fixture list in the men's toilets is the 2016 one. Time is not standing still, though. We are moving on.
