There were times last season when Lady Kaya looked a filly of real quality for Sheila Lavery, particularly at the Curragh in August, and the apple of the Summerhill trainer's eye laid down a marker for the Qipco 1,000 Guineas with a fine front-running performance in the Ballylinch Stud-sponsored trial.

This was the biggest success on the Flat for rider Robbie Colgan and his mount travelled powerfully in front before she put distance between herself and her rivals for a two-and-a-quarter length victory over Happen.

This was a quality performance from the winner, who is as big as 25-1 for the 1,000 Guineas, although she was cut to as low as 12-1 in a couple of places.
