Lady Katy outwits Prairie Spy to score on handicap debut

The story of the fillies' nursery was supposed to be the weight-carrying exploits of 4-7 favourite Prairie Spy, who was conceding more than 20lb to her rivals, but instead it turned into a family affair, as Lady Katy descended from the clouds to win by half a length.

Lady Katy, who is by Derby winner Sir Percy, showed plenty of speed and her performance suggested she could ultimately suit a longer trip.

She is owned and bred by Sally Hall, who trained dam Katy O'Hara and handed in her licence only last year. Hall has sent most of Katy O'Hara's progeny, including Lady Katy, to William Jarvis, who has done well with them.
