Lacustre rewards Lanigan with convincing win on handicap debut

David Lanigan was rewarded for a shrewd piece of race planning when Lacustre landed the feature 1m2f handicap under a beautifully-timed ride from Shane Kelly.

The trainer was going to enter his three-year-old, who had gone two runs without a win since joining the yard from Andre Fabre, in the following maiden, but backed his filly to strike on her handicap debut in the more valuable £15,500 contest.

“I was a bit surprised when I saw her price at the off,” said Lanigan, “She’s a filly I’ve liked since Ted Durcan recommended picking her up at the sales in July, and I thought she’d take a lot of beating today off a reasonable mark.
