It was a memorable afternoon for trainer Philip Kirby and rider Tommy Dowson, who teamed up to win two of the seven races. For Dowson it put him on to the 41-winner mark which means that his claim is now down to 3lb, and for Kirby it was the first part of a busy schedule for he failed to see out the card as he needed to rush off in order to see his children perform in the West End.

Wemyss Point gave the pair their first success. The five-year-old, who was placed in three of his four bumpers last season, was a well-supported 7-1 shot and built on his first run over jumps by beating the Dan Skelton-trained Cabaret Queen by four and a half lengths.

He runs in the colours of the 20-strong Green Oaks Partnership and his trainer said: "He is nothing flashy and you have to keep him up to his work, but he did that well enough."
