Kings Fete, considered by many to be an unlucky loser in the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap at Royal Ascot last time, got the better of a thrilling battle with Ayrad to register a first Group-race success.

Frankie Dettori gave Ayrad a canny ride from the front but Ryan Moore was always within striking distance on 5-2 favourite Kings Fete and kept on well to win by three-quarters of a length.

The win will be viewed by many as just reward for Kings Fete after his unlucky-in-running third at Royal Ascot, when he looked likely to swoop into the lead only to meet serious traffic problems.
