William Buick was back enjoying big-race success after his suspension when driving Ribchester to a half-length success over Vadamos in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville yesterday.

But the hoped-for exciting rematch with Galileo Gold, who had finished in front of Ribchester in both the Guineas and Sussex Stakes, failed to materialise as Frankie Dettori’s mount was already beaten when the Group 1 contest, backed by the Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard, developed in earnest.

Buick, who is already looking forward to Wednesday’s Juddmonte International ride on Eclipse hero Hawkbill, had sat out Ribchester’s late charge for third at Goodwood 18 days earlier, when serving his 30-day ban.
