Jones wins Listed race at first attempt with Royal Birth

There was a brief problem making sure Royal Birth had the right number before the Listed Betway Hever Sprint Stakes, but he was in the number one spot after the race when coming with a late burst.

Trained by Stuart Williams, the six-year-old was number six, but initially had the number nine saddlecloth of Buying Trouble. Once that problem was rectified, Royal Birth struck by half a length under Aaron Jones, who was having his first ride in a Listed race.

The winning jockey said: "He's been a good horse for me, I won a big heritage handicap on him last year as well."
