Jockey Chris Timmons off the mark as a trainer as Jazzelle clings on bravely

Chris Timmons only took out a restricted trainer's licence this summer but the 31-year-old jockey wasted little time in getting his new career up and running as he watched Jazzelle cling on bravely to land the apprentice handicap under Jamie Powell.

Timmons, who won the Porterstown Chase at Fairyhouse back in 2016 on Forever Gold, will be double-jobbing over the next few months as he hopes to continue his association with Eddie Cawley.

"That's my first winner and it's great to get it. We had a few knocking on the door and it's nice to get one over the line," he beamed after the 14-1 shot scored by a neck from Victory March.

The trainer added: "I just got my licence this summer and I'm based in Batterstown in County Meath. Myself and my partner, Joanne Lavery, started off pinhooking foals, unsuccessfully!

"The two horses that ran here [Chacha Dancer was fifth] ran a few weeks ago in both divisions of a nice race at Leopardstown and I was hoping this race would divide to give them both a chance.

"I'm still riding and I'm just back in Eddie Cawley's in the last couple of weeks as he has all the winter horses in. He has some really nice horses and I'll be trying to get on a few of them."

Value in quick reappearance

Dollar Value is nothing if not resilient, as the runner-up in the 6.52 at Down Royal on Friday evening won the 4.45 at Navan on Saturday. It turns out 22 hours was more than enough recovery time.

Just as Colin Keane did when winning a course-and-distance handicap at the track last Saturday, Luke McAteer sent Dollar Value straight to the front and they never saw another rival on the way to an eased-down eight-length win.

Trainer Tom McCourt said: "I was very cagey about running him again after he ran last night but Colin Keane came back in last night and the first thing he said before he hopped off him was that if he was all right in the morning, run him again. That swung it for me."

Fred Winter winner Jeff Kidder could finish only fourth off a mark of just 63, 84lb lower than his hurdles rating.

A work of Art

Art Of Unity showed a terrific attitude to land the 5f handicap for Johnny Feane and Leigh Roche.

The speedy six-year-old went up 10lb for winning at the Curragh and was 3lb out of the handicap but he would not take no for an answer when favourite Arnhem appeared on the scene and held on by a head.

The Joe McGrath Handicap, back at the Curragh, is next on the agenda.

All about Speed

Speedacus lived up to his name in the feature 5f nursery and Kieran Cotter will now aim him at a Listed race over the minimum trip at Dundalk in a few weeks' time.
