'The division is wide open' - Jack Channon aims to crash the Nunthorpe party late with improving Miss Attitude

Miss Attitude showed she is a sprinting mare to be reckoned with when race conditions fall right after she closed fast and late under Rob Hornby to run down Redorange in the Listed 5f Prix du Cercle for in-form trainer Jack Channon

"Rob Hornby has built up a really good rapport with her and she has to be delivered late as she tends to stop when she gets to the front," said Channon. "We've always thought she was a very smart filly but unfortunately she's had a multitude of issues."

Miss Attitude is a homebred product of the Channons' Norman Court Stud and the trainer added: "Now I've just got to talk the owners into supplementing her for the Nunthorpe. To be honest it's a bit of a no-brainer as we've already seen this year the five-furlong division is wide open.

"She beat [King George Stakes winner] Jm Jungle in a Listed race at York, so why wouldn't you try?"

Sahlan set for Group 1 return

Buried away on the rail under Mickael Barzalona, Al Shaqab's homebred son of Wootton Basset flew once pulled to the outside at the furlong pole.

"I've always thought plenty of him but he's not been straightforward and was actually sick last time so he couldn't show that acceleration," said trainer Francis Graffard. "We decided to ride him cold today and get him covered up on the inside. They went hard and he really showed his class.

"He has a real turn of foot when you get him to switch off and has a lot of quality. We'll have to see how he comes out of this race but the mile is his trip and, as long as the ground stays good, we might have a look at the Moulin, where he would have nothing to lose."

Cacofonix follows in fast tracks

The last two July Cup winners have won the Listed Prix Moonlight Cloud in their three-year-old season and Yann Barberot would not be complaining if Cacofonix kept up the tradition.

The Wertheimers' son of Lope De Vega got the better of Daylight and Kerkila by a short head and a nose, having previously finished fifth to Woodshauna in the Group 1 Prix Jean Prat over a furlong further.

"He showed in the Jean Prat that he has a lot of early speed and then picked up like a real sprinter, so this race fitted in very well," said Barberot. "This was a Group race disguised as a Listed and I loved what he did. I think he'll become a very good horse in time."
