'It's very tough' - Oliver Sherwood team enjoy poignant win with Jersey Lady
Thursday: Ffos Las
Trainer Oliver Sherwood admitted to experiencing the 'highs and lows' of racing in recent days after Jersey Lady scored in the 2m6f handicap hurdle.
The six-year-old mare provided owner Tony Taylor and the Neardown Stables team with a poignant victory following the loss of Jersey Bean, who was fatally injured in the Coral Scottish Grand National last weekend.
"It’s very tough to lose any horse, especially someone like Jersey Bean, but you have to move on," said Sherwood.
"You can have a day like Saturday, which was horrible, and then five days later you have a winner. It’s the highs and lows of the game, I have been in it for 38 years and it’s still tough."
The Lambourn handler believes a recent wind operation for Jersey Lady, who is a half-sister to Grand National hopeful Burrows Saint, has been positive.
He added: "She went to a stage mid-season where she was running very keen, so we had to go back to basics and teach her to settle."
Amateur at it again
Jockey Connor Brace had the perfect preparation for a big day at Aintree on Friday by winning the West Wales National on the John Flint-trained Amateur, who was victorious in the race for the second successive year.
