'It's the best feeling ever' - proud father as Billy Loughnane closes on claim
Thursday: Wolverhampton
Billy Loughnane continued his remarkable start to the new year after he secured his seventh win in five days on Algheed.
The 16-year-old jockey has started his career in spectacular form and is just one success away from ending his 7lb claim, despite only riding his first winner under rules in November.
Loughnane claimed 13 wins in January and was on the board again at Wolverhampton in the 6f fillies' handicap, with Algheed completing a hat-trick for owners Steve and Anita Mares.
"To see Billy's transformation from the pony racing, it's brilliant," father and trainer Mark Loughnane told Sky Sports Racing.
"I keep saying it's just awesome, it's the best feeling ever. He rides so well and his confidence is good. I'm blowing him up all the time and I need to stop because he's blowing himself up now.
"It's great Billy is out and the horses are running well. 11 weeks ago it was 'this is Billy, Mark's son.' Now it's 'this is Mark, Billy's dad!' I'm just smiling. It's a proud house."
The yard's strong form continued with a treble after Serenity Rose scored in the 1m½f fillies' maiden stakes under Luke Morris and Won Love took the 7f classified stakes with Cam Hardie.
Close call for Channon
Morris' success denied Jack Channon victory with the first runner in his name after Flash Bardot finished runner-up to Serenity Rose.
Channon took over from his father Mick at the start of the year and made an encouraging start to training as the three-year-old filly closed strongly to snatch second under Rose Dawes.
