It's nine wins in a row for staying king Kyprios as reliable chestnut inches closer to third Gold Cup

Kyprios extended his winning streak to nine with a third triumph in the Saval Beg Levmoss Stakes under Ryan Moore.

The seven-year-old was sent off the 1-14 favourite to defeat an inferior field and, although he raced lazily at various stages, he always looked in control and comfortably saw off Dallas Star to score by a length and a half.

It was his second win of the season having landed the Listed Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan in April at odds of 1-7.

Paddy Power make him an 8-11 shot to win a third Gold Cup at Royal Ascot in June. Were he to succeed, he would be just one win behind the great Yeats, who won the race on four occasions for the same trainer, Aidan O'Brien.

Kyprios was following up wins in the Saval Beg in 2022 and 2024, having missed a chunk of the 2023 season through injury.

It has been mooted that Kyprios could tackle the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe over a mile and a half this season, having enjoyed one of his finest moments at Longchamp in 2022 when a staggering 20-length winner of the Prix du Cadran.

The son of Galileo's last run over shorter than 1m6f came in the 2021 Lingfield Derby Trial when he finished fourth to Third Realm, Adayar and Scope. Before that, he had won his maiden over slightly further than a mile and a 1m2f race at Cork.

Kyprios would need to be supplemented for the French contest but can be backed at 33-1 with Paddy Power.
