Thursday: Kelso

Evan Williams completed a full set of wins on every jumps course in Britain as his Peterborough landed the 2m1f chase on the card.

The South Wales trainer, who sent out his first winner two decades ago, reached the landmark with the front-running chaser ridden by his daughter Isabel.

"It's fantastic," Evan Williams said. "It's something we wanted to do and it was great to get it done.

"My first winner was in a hunter chase at Chepstow, I trained and rode it. It seems like a long time ago.

"I've enjoyed every single moment. There have been highs and lows, good days and bad days, but we look forward to getting up every morning and doing it.

"We're very fortunate and we've not had to work a day in our lives: there's not many people who can say that."

Peterborough took advantage of three of his four rivals falling or unseating, and Isabel Williams said: "I didn't know that was happening, but it helped!

"He's been a lovely horse for us. He loves the fast ground and loves getting his own way in front. He jumps like a bunny.

"That's my first time riding here, first time riding in Scotland. It was a long journey up here, but we go anywhere for a winner."

Saint's day

Saint D'Oroux, who was third in the Boodles Hurdle at Cheltenham for Gordon Elliott in 2020, made a winning start for new trainer Stuart Crawford in the £20,000 handicap hurdle.

The 14-1 shot took advantage of 1-2 favourite Famous Bridge unseating Brian Hughes at the second-last flight, and winning jockey James Bowen said: "All credit to Stuart and the team, not many come out of Gordon Elliott's and do that well."

Assistant trainer Ben Arthey added: "We've had him since last July. He had some good form and I thought he was a massive price at 14-1."

Up and away

Jockey Sean Quinlan's patience paid off as Upandatit landed his first success in the novice handicap chase.

Quinlan bided his time in race in which the last two fences were omitted on both circuits due to low sun, and trainer Nick Alexander said: "When they take fences out, the last one to go for their horse often wins as they tend to get racing too far out.

"Upandatit needed the better ground, that was the key to him."

Three in a row

First-season trainer Ewan Whillans is flying in February, and he made it three winners in a row when landing the staying hurdle with Kaizer and the novice event with Bella Bluesky, following on from his success at Newcastle on Tuesday.

Both were ridden by Craig Nichol, who said "Kaizer has come back down into his grade where he's more comfortable. He had a fall at Musselburgh earlier in the season and maybe gave himself a bit of a scare. He's got over that and his confidence is booming at the minute.

"It was a good performance by Bella Bluesky. She's still very novicey. She's very slow at her jumps, but there's a bit of ability in there. She's got a brilliant attitude, she's very tough."
