It's a super seventh for Mark's Choice as course specialist strikes again
Tuesday: Ripon
Six-year-old sprinter Mark's Choice strengthened his connection with the North Yorkshire venue with a seventh course success and a first since joining trainer Adrian Keatley.
Mark's Choice had triumphed at the track for former trainers Ruth Carr and Sam England, and proved he remains very much a horse for this course with victory in the feature 6f handicap, skipping clear under Ryan Sexton inside the final 100 yards.
Afterwards a delighted Keatley said: "It was brilliant. I'm so pleased for the owners because we've thrown him at the deep end since he's been here."
Keatley was optimistic Mark’s Choice, who finished third in the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon earlier in the month, would continue his love affair with the track. He said: "We were confident going into today, especially with his record at Ripon. The ground and the track suited him perfectly and he's delivered the goods once again."
Opening upset
There was an surprise in the opening 5f fillies' novice as Raven's Up got the better of 5-6 favourite Sparkling Red and 6-4 chance Girl Magic.
The 9-1 shot was kept handy by Benoit de la Sayette behind the front-running Sparkling Red and, with the favourite finding nothing off the bridle, Raven's Up pulled away inside the final half-furlong to record a first success.
In-form team
In the penultimate mile handicap, Red Kite, ridden by the in-form Franny Norton, won despite being boxed in on the rail. He finished fast to continue Mark and Charlie Johnston's fine season.
