'It's a big landmark' - Jack Mitchell celebrates 1,000th winner in Britain as Tawasol delivers at Brighton

Jack Mitchell celebrated a landmark success when partnering his 1,000th winner in Britain on board Tawasol in the 6f maiden.
Mitchell, 36, steered the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained three-year-old to a two-and-three-quarter length win over Mahra's Love for a first win in four starts.
Mitchell said: "It’s a big landmark I’ve wanted to reach because not many jockeys can say they’ve done it. It’s a big number to get. I didn’t realise I was close to it until a few weeks ago when someone mentioned it, but I had a quick glance at the screen and there was a big sigh of relief I’d done it. I’m glad and it’d be nice to get on a good one this year and see where that takes me."
Mitchell, who has ridden 22 Group or Listed victories in Britain, also acknowledged the level of support he has received throughout his career. He added: "I’ve had very good people over the years who have supported me. When I’ve not had a good run I’ve had my wife to thank as she’s been able to pick me back up.
"My agent Steve Croft has also played a huge part. He’s got me riding for people I never thought I’d ride for."
Home win for Bloom
Brighton & Hove Albion chairman Tony Bloom recorded a home victory when Santorini Star landed the feature £25,000 1m2f fillies' handicap. The daughter of Golden Horn, who is owned by Bloom and Ian McAleavy, made it three wins from five starts for William Haggas.
