Retirement proved short-lived for Itlaaq. After suffering an injury to a tendon the ten-year-old was retired in 2015, but his recovery went much better than expected and he was back in the winner's enclosure for the second time this year when he and Danielle Mooney landed the 1m4f handicap to give trainer Mick Easterby his second winner of the day following the success of Hoof It at Goodwood.

It was Itlaaq's eighth success of his career and his owner Bill Tinning said: "We retired him last year after a scan revealed he had a hole in his tendon and we were going to give him away as a riding horse. But when we scanned his leg again in December it was fine, so we decided to bring him back into training.
