'It was a good day' - Murphy hits treble but turns attention to busy week ahead
Monday: Market Rasen
Olly Murphy praised the efforts of his team after they were treated to a Boxing Day treble, but quickly turned his focus a busy festive schedule that lies ahead.
Weebill kick-started the hat-trick by scoring in the opening 2m½f handicap hurdle. That was followed by Chasing Fire, who produced an eyecatching performance in the 2m½f novice hurdle when winning by 16 lengths, while Sao Carlos rounded the day off with victory in the 2m½f bumper.
Murphy said: "It was a good day, I had runners everywhere and it’s always nice to get winners — especially a treble.
"All my staff have worked extremely hard throughout the Christmas period, as has everyone within racing.
"To be rewarded with winners is great, but we’ve still got a very busy week ahead of us so hopefully we can keep this form going."
Chasing Fire maintained his 100 per cent record and Murphy added: "He was good, he kicked on well and was entitled to do what he did so he’ll step up in Grade now.
"I liked Sao Carlos, I’ve always liked him and he’s a horse with a big engine. He’s for sale now, so hopefully we’ll be seeing him in some different colours on his next start."
Landmark win
Fergal O’Brien celebrated his 100th winner of the campaign after Accidental Legend won the 2m4½f handicap hurdle.
The five-year-old's half a length victory over Fazayte means the trainer has surpassed the century mark for a third successive season and, as a result, has moved closer to beating last year’s career-best tally of 128 winners.
Cashing in
The Ben Pauling-trained Bangers And Cash recorded back-to-back victories by landing the feature 3m3½f Lincolnshire National handicap chase.
