'It never goes as smoothly as that' - perfect day for Curtis with four winners
Wednesday: Beverley
Ben Curtis continued his summer of success with victories on all his four rides on the card at accumulated odds of 160-1.
Curtis was on the mark with Emily's Eclipse, Qipao, Andaleep and Golden Keeper, all for different trainers.
"It's just been a brilliant day – it never usually goes as smoothly that," said the northern-based jockey, who took his seasonal tally to 84.
The winners have flowed for Curtis since the end of May and at one stage, harboured hopes of giving William Buick a run for his money in the jockeys' championship.
"I think that bird has flown now," he said. "But it's been a tremendous season and I'm enjoying it immensely."
Curtis set the ball rolling when guiding Emily's Eclipse to a three-quarter-length victory in the 7½f juvenile maiden, enhancing Ed Dunlop's excellent record at the track.
It was a special victory for the trainer as the filly is named after his eldest daughter.
Dunlop said: "Her owner Paul Turner wanted to name a horse after Emily and he asked me to choose it, so it looks as if I found a good one.
"She ran well in a good race at Newmarket and I thought she toughed it out well today. She will stay further and might appreciate easier ground."
Ireland next for Minnesota
Richard Fahey is eyeing a big sales race in Ireland next month for Minnesota Lad, who easily landed odds of 8-13 in the 5f maiden in the hands of Oisin Orr.
The two-year-old is entered for the €100,000 Goffs Sportsmans Challenge over 6f at Naas on September 15, and Fahey said: "He's won well today, though I am not sure how good a race it was."
