'It means a lot' - 40-1 Humphrey family success as Go On Gal strikes
Former national pony racing champion William Humphrey advertised his skills in the saddle with a family success for his mother Sarah aboard 40-1 shot Go On Gal in the 1m4f handicap.
Apprentice Humphrey is based with Simon and Ed Crisford in Newmarket, having led the way on the pony racing circuit in 2017 and been crowned champion novice point-to-point rider in East Anglia in 2019.
The Yen Hall Farm Racing-owned Go On Gal was making her stable debut and showed notable improvement to gain a first victory on turf and provide the 19-year-old rider with his third winner.
The winning trainer said: “We thought she had a very good chance as she’s improved for a change in yard and been working very well. It was the right trip and ground and our plan came together.
“It’s lovely to have a family success and means a lot. We made William finish his A-levels, so he’s joined the apprentice ranks later than most, but the Crisfords have given him a good opportunity and he’s working hard.”
Easterby's fab four
Tim Easterby struck with 2m handicap scorer Bollin Neil, 6f fillies' maiden winner Tequila Royale and 6f handicap winner Obee Jo to go with Boardman's triumph at Chester. An accumulator on the four winners returned odds of 442-1.
Dexter delivers
Roger Fell celebrated a first win with sprinter Dave Dexter in the feature 5f handicap. Rowan Scott’s mount, owned by The Wolf Pack & Partner, was a 12,000gns purchase in October and repelled the challenge of favourite Zim Baby.
