In-form Varian happy to take a familiar path with Mountain Angel
The feature Blue Riband Trial on the card was all about unearthing clues for the Investec Derby, but Epsom's biggest meeting was also on the minds of those in winning form elsewhere on the card, including in-form Roger Varian, who plundered the prestigious City And Suburban Handicap with Mountain Angel.
Varian was the trainer to follow at last week's Craven meeting and his good form continued as Mountain Angel brought a long-term plan to fruition under Andrea Atzeni.
"It's a nice race to win and we've targeted it from quite a way out," said the Newmarket trainer.
