Country Code impressed again and could be pitched into tougher company next month before a possible appearance at the Cheltenham Festival.

The five-year-old is now two from two under rules after another taking display in the 2m6½f novice hurdle. He tracked the leaders under Danny McMenamin before being hard ridden approaching the last, but once he popped that he pulled comfortably clear by five and a half lengths.

Trained by Ruth Jefferson, Country Code could be seen next in the Grade 2 River Don at Doncaster on January 24 before possibly running in the Grade 1 Albert Bartlett in March.

Winning owner Eric Elliott told Racing TV: “I bought him last May off a chap called John Staunton in Ireland. It was Derek O'Connor who found him for me. I'm sure I'll be getting phone calls today from Derek and John because when he won at Newcastle, I had hardly left the winner's enclosure and they were straight on the phone.

"Danny [McMenamin] said straight away he has got to have an entry in the River Don and then Ruth said, ‘I'm putting him in the Albert Bartlett'. If I could get a few potatoes from Mr Bartlett, I would be over the moon.

"The horse that beat him in his second point-to-point, Apache Tribe, went out and won a bumper in Ireland by 16 lengths.”

Golden Point backed up her latest win at the track with a dominant success in the 3m2f handicap chase.

Trained by Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore, the 2-1 favourite fended off her challengers under Nick Orpwood before bounding eight lengths clear after the last.
