'I wish every horse I found was this good' - bargain buy Endless Escape excites
Monday: Wincanton
Trainer Ben Clarke geared up for The Galloping Bear's Welsh National run in the best possible style when bargain buy Endless Escape routed her rivals in the 1m7f mares' novice hurdle.
The race wasn't without drama as Roccstar Bay became unsteerable on the home turn and ran out. Passionate Pursuit made a mistake and unseated Tom Cannon when poised to challenge two out, while 2-5 favourite Ahorsewithnoname was pulled up after three out when bleeding from the nose.
Endless Escape, who cost just £6,500, backed up her Lingfield debut win when drawing clear under Ben Jones to win by 22 lengths and her trainer is now eyeing a valuable prize with the mare.
"I was a little bit worried that things might happen a bit quickly for her today but I got a lot of confidence off Ben [Jones, winning jockey]. She gave him a right feel on her debut at Lingfield and he was very positive about her," Clarke said.
"I thought it was worth taking on Nicky Henderson's Ahorsewithnoname and it paid off. We're absolutely thrilled – I wish every horse I found for £6,500 was this good.
"She's clearly quite smart. We do our homework when we're buying these horses but you never quite know what you're getting."
On future plans, Clarke added: "We'll have a look at the Winter Million now at Lingfield. There's quite a valuable fillies' novice there, so we'll have a crack."
Majesty March
Steal A March, owned by the King, earned quotes of 16-1 with Betfair for the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival after a strong staying performance in the qualifier under James Bowen who, alongside Nicky Henderson, was completing a double after Tweed Skirt landed the opening 2m4f mares' handicap chase for novices.
