'I was riding every fence for Trevor' - tears are shed on a magical afternoon

A tear rolled down Kathryn Revitt's face as she reflected on Cloudy Glen's triumph in the Ladbrokes Trophy. It will not have been the first she has shed since the death of Trevor Hemmings last month. It was because she knew how much this would have meant to him that it meant so much to her.

Revitt was not alone in becoming a little overwhelmed on Newbury's biggest day. A shade over two hours earlier, Lucinda Russell freely admitted to crying as Ahoy Senor galloped further and further clear. Her emotional investment in the horse was total, just as it was for Hemmings whenever he saw his famous colours carried to glory.

That was certainly true when Cloth Cap was crowned his third winner of this jumping classic. One year on, it was left to others to get excited on Hemmings' behalf.
