Despite being sent off a 25-1 chance, Arthington’s victory in the 2m½f novice hurdle proved a nice financial boost for the wedding expenses of owner Chris Baldwin.

The four-year-old was having his first try over hurdles and jumped with more fluency than some of his better-fancied rivals before settling matters with a three-length verdict over Coyoacan.

Trainer Seamus Mullins said: “He was bought for just £3,500 at the Doncaster sales last August so it just goes to show that the cheap horses are still out there. It’s just a case of finding them, and hopefully this horse can only go on from here as he shows us plenty at home schooling.
