Hot or not? Three Racing Post experts give their verdict on the Dewhurst winner

Is Too Darn Hot your idea of the 2,000 Guineas and/or Derby winner?

For me he's a Guineas winner. The pedigree suggests he should be better over further at three, given the stamina influence of Dar Re Mi, but he seems to be more speed-laden. He does not grind out victories, instead he cruises into contention before going away with a tidy turn of foot. Frankie Dettori had to get him organised when encountering the Dip for the first time, but once gathered up the pair glided home in the final 75 yards. A mile does not look a problem, but a mile and a half requires a different set of attributes, which I'm not sure will play to his strengths.

It's very hard to knock Too Darn Hot's performances this season, they've been nothing short of sensational and he thoroughly deserves to be the clear favourite for both Classics. However, my biggest concern about Too Darn Hot isn't his talent, it's his fragility. He had problems as a yearling, which is why he wasn't sold, and his sisters So Mi Dar and Lah Ti Dar both suffered setbacks as three-year-olds, and So Mi Dar again as a four-year-old. That would be a serious concern when backing a horse at such a short price so far away from the race. His price isn't going to shorten much from now untill the spring – when we'll know more about his fitness – so if you fancy him, wait. Don't forget about Quorto and Ten Sovereigns – they've won their Group 1s in equally convincing fashion and Too Darn Hot is probably too darn short given they're still unbeaten.
