'Hopefully I've made a statement' - Collen Storey strikes on Sassy Redhead
Thursday: Chelmsford
Trainer William Stone had gone all of last month without a winner, but he quickly got off the mark for November when Sassy Redhead landed the 6f nursery under Collen Storey.
Storey, who was riding his first winner for the trainer and his fifth since moving to Britain from South Africa earlier this year, just saw off the challenge of the Daniel Muscutt-ridden Captain Wentworth.
Speaking to Racing TV after striking with his only ride of the day, Storey said: "Hopefully I've made a statement that if I get the chance I really try my best and hopefully I can get a couple more rides and come here more often.
"Things are very tough at the moment, being unknown it's quite hard, but I'm just going through the ranks slowly."
The 28-year-old added: "It's nice to ride out for Mr [John] Gosden, you learn a lot as things go on. You're never too old to learn and today was quite nice."
Muscutt gained some compensation aboard the John Butler-trained Starjik, who followed up last week's Kempton win under a penalty in division one of the 6f handicap.
Flat success
Burnham Plastering and Drylining Ltd have outsider Us And Them to look forward to in the Betway Haldon Gold Cup on Friday, and the owners warmed up for Exeter's feature race with their first winner on the Flat for over four years when Mindthegap took the 6f novice stakes under Sean Levey.
Richard Hannon trained Zalshah to win a Ffos Las handicap for the owners in August 2018, and the Wiltshire trainer did the honours again with the two-year-old son of Kodiac.
