The secret has long been out that Denis Hogan is a dab hand when it comes to placing his horses, but even he has been surprised with the progress of stable star Youcantcallherthat, who provided the 30-year-old with his first Grade 2 success in the 2m6f mares’ novice chase.

A point-to-point winner two years ago, Youcantcallherthat failed to notch a single victory over hurdles last season, leaving Hogan and the Lostwelton Syndicate, who own the seven-year-old, in two minds whether or not to sell her and cut their losses.

Despite common sense suggesting otherwise, Hogan and his owners retained the faith and were paid in spades after Youcantcallherthat jumped for fun out in front in the feature race, holding off the late challenge of the odds-on favourite Dinaria Des Obeaux.
