Highstakesplayer completes quickfire course-and-distance double for Tom Lacey
Tuesday: Hereford
Highstakesplayer returned to the scene of his victory eight days ago and landed the feature 2m5f handicap chase for trainer Tom Lacey.
The six-year-old extended his unbeaten record over fences to two when defying a 7lb penalty and beating Gemirande by nine lengths.
"His jumping was very much put to the test in a deeper race than last time and I was really pleased with how he went," said Lacey. "He's big and has been crying out for a fence. We've just been waiting for this season – it was always the natural progression for him."
His success was made easier by the fall of the Robert Walford-trained Ede'iffs Elton, who challenged for the lead at the second-last fence.
"We'll never know what would have happened if Rob's horse had stood up," said Lacey. "He'll have an easy few weeks. We'll then pick him up and see where we are once the handicapper has had his say."
Nicholls on top
Dixon Cove continued trainer Paul Nicholls' strong run of form when coasting to an easy win in the juvenile hurdle under Harry Cobden.
The three-year-old filly was well fancied for her first start in Britain and justified odds of 30-100 to strike by 13 lengths from Cianciana.
Parramount pounces
Parramount got off the mark over hurdles in impressive fashion with a ten-length victory in the 2m novice hurdle.
The imposing six-year-old, who was third at Stratford last time, was a comfortable winner for Charlie Longsdon, who trains the winner's half-sister and 2022 Grand National runner Snow Leopardess.
