When it comes to endangered species, people tend to be more concerned by the plight of the black rhino or the snow leopard than they are about the long-term prospects of the ticket tout.

There are plenty of charity collectors shaking their buckets as racegoers arrive at Cheltenham on BetVictor Gold Cup day, although, oddly enough, not one of them is raising funds for endangered touts.

That’s despite the fact that Cheltenham’s population of illicit ticket traders has thinned out dramatically since the Festival in March, when more than 150 of the breed were reportedly spotted in the racecourse environs.
