'He's very exciting' - Roger Teal looking to the future with promising Caragio
Tuesday: Leicester
Roger Teal was mystified by the market drift of Caragio and his confidence was justified after the 17-2 chance bolted up in the 7f novice.
Adam Kirby set out to make all on the son of Caravaggio and the pair were always in command after kicking clear at the two-furlong pole, beating the 96-rated favourite Highbank by three lengths.
"He was unlucky not to win at Newbury, he was very green and raw in the finish, and he's obviously come on bundles from that," Teal said.
"We were very hopeful and I rang Harry [Teal] before the race because I wanted him to count how many limbs he had because he was drifting in the market and I didn't know why. It was an insult he was that price."
Caragio is already gelded but the Lambourn-based trainer is still excited about the future.
"He's very exciting," added Teal. "We had to get him gelded because he was basically untrainable, he was going to hurt himself if we didn't as he was very highly strung.
"It's gutting as he's a very nice horse but at the end of the day, these horses don't get to be nice horses if you don't do the right thing by them. He can't be a Guineas horse but we can find plenty of other spots for him – he's definitely a black-type horse."
Smart prospect
The Richard Hannon-trained Magical Sunset built on a smart fourth in the Goffs Million when justifying favouritism in the 6f conditions race under James Doyle.
