'He's thriving' - Back From Dubai continues Southwell sequence with fourth win
Friday: Southwell
Back From Dubai continued his and trainer Roy Bowring's remarkable start to 2022 by winning the second division of the 7f handicap.
It was the five-year-old's fourth victory at Southwell this year and he gained it with the minimum of fuss, tanking into the race and always looking the likely winner.
"It’s no easy task to get four in a row, to keep in good form, and he’s shown no signs of stopping," jockey PJ McDonald told Sky Sports Racing.
Bowring recorded his best tally since 2015 with 14 winners last year and, having already posted eight winners in 2022, his resurgence looks set to continue.
On the prospect of a five-timer, McDonald added: "He's thriving and they say strike while the iron is hot. I was lucky enough to get on him today and I wish everybody the best of luck with him moving forward."
Southwell first for Curran
Cochise's comfortable 20-1 success in the 2m2½f handicap was a first Southwell winner for trainer Sean Curran.
The six-year-old burst through between horses to score with plenty in hand and a hurdling run at Plumpton was mentioned as his next target.
"He was working nicely but I thought if he finished in the middle of them today it would have been a good run – for him to win is a bonus," said Curran.
Perfect start for Woods
Trainer Sean Woods made the best possible start to 2022 when his first runner of the year, Borgi, scored on his debut in the 7f maiden.
Woods said: "All the others in the race had run, so it was a hard ask, but it was nice to see him do it so professionally and learn a good bit."
