'He's one to have nice dreams about' - Emma Lavelle excited by Tarahumara
Saturday: Chepstow
Tarahumara left his trainer Emma Lavelle with high aspirations for next season after an impressive performance in the novice hurdle.
The six-year-old, who had finished second on debut, went one better in effortless fashion under Tom Bellamy, drawing clear by seven and a half lengths from 100-1 shot Lord Bill.
Lavelle said: “He’s a nice one. He’s a lovely horse. He’s huge, he was always going to take time. There has been no rush with him and he looked very impressive there today.
“Just on how he did it, how he travelled, how he jumped and quickened away. He’s one to have some nice dreams about for next season.”
When asked about whether that would be his last run this season, Lavelle said: “I’d say so, we’ll go and jump fences next season, that’s what he is designed to go and do. I’m really looking forward to him jumping fences.
“He’s a little bit highly strung at home, Timmy Murphy rides him at home and has done a great job with him.
“He was brilliant here today all the way through the preliminaries but to have a race, without really knowing he’s had a race, will set him up for next season. It’s exciting, we definitely like him.”
Doubles all round
Tom Lacey continued his fine season with a double on the day. Benito had been freshened up and won for the first time in division two of the novice handicap hurdle to give Bellamy a double. The day was capped off nicely for Lacey with Ginny’s Destiny justifying favouritism in the bumper.
