'He's one of the pacier ones at home' - Race To Base gets off the mark with smart hurdling display

David Proos, owner of Broadway Boy, appears to have another smart prospect on his hands after Race To Base was successful on just his second start over hurdles.

The five-year-old, trained by Nigel and Willy Twiston-Davies, made his debut over obstacles at Uttoxeter in early October, finishing fifth in a race won by De Temps En Temps, who subsequently scored again at the Cheltenham Showcase meeting.

Sent off a heavy odds-on favourite here, Race To Base justified that support in the 2m novice hurdle. Guardami Ancora ran a big race in second at 150-1, finishing eight and a half lengths behind the winner.

Winning jockey Sam Twiston-Davies told Sky Sports Racing: “We were hoping he could do it easily, especially with how his Uttoxeter form has worked out. I’m pleased David was here to see him do it.

“Broadway Boy was always a pleasure for him, but this fellow is a bit different. He’s very quick, one of the pacier ones at home, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him stay at the minimum trip.”

Go off the mark

On The Go, trained by Charlie Longsdon, got off the mark at the seventh attempt, winning the 2m5½f handicap hurdle by ten lengths under claimer Daire McConville, who has won on two of his last four rides.

Park's perfect start

The Nicky Henderson-trained Noble Park made a winning start over fences, landing the 2m5f handicap chase in the colours of Michael Buckley after going six starts without success over hurdles.
