Little over a month ago Social City won his first race at the 14th attempt, but 25 days later he continued his remarkable rise through the ranks after his victory in the 1m6f handicap provided him with a fourth success in a row.

The four-year-old's winning streak began at Lingfield on November 25 and continued in handicap company with victories at Wolverhampton and the Nottinghamshire track two days ago.

Despite the quick turnaround and 5lb penalty, he ground out a four-and-three-quarter-length victory under Cieren Fallon and completed his meteoric turnaround to the delight of winning trainer Tony Carroll, who registered a double after Vape won the 6f handicap.

"It was exciting, what a performance", he said. "He's been a progressive horse all year, he stays very well and enjoys the surface. He's clearly in very good form.

"It's quite an achievement from him and they've all been very good performances. He's uncomplicated and very honest, but is a big horse and he's grown into his strength. He was a bit weak last year. He's come of age."

100 up for Mitchell

Jack Mitchell had been stuck on the 99 winner mark for ten days, but any frustration that crept into his career-best season was banished when Exotic Escape romped to victory by 18 lengths in the 1m4f handicap, giving the jockey his 100th winner for the year.

Mitchell said after achieving the feat for the first time: "It was great. I had to keep pushing to get it over the line, but it's a great team effort from my agent, trainer and owners who have supported me. I'm over the moon."

Landmark Appleby success

Mick Appleby spoke about his opposition to Southwell's decision to switch to a Tapeta surface and he will be hoping his Fibresand fortunes last for a little while longer, following his landmark 200th victory at the track with Wrath Of Hector in the 7f handicap.
